So looking around in frustration on how annoyingly difficult it is to install or especially update the Nvidia driver *cough cough* thanks NVidia
and with that I have figured out a safe and easy way to install the up to date driver for you Nvidia GPU or update it, it is very straight forward and doesn't take much time to do.
Please Note This tutorial is for:
Ubuntu, and all there flavors like Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Gnome, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Linux Mint, anything based on Ubuntu and any debian based systems
Updating your GPU:
First step you need to do is swap off the Proprietary driver so open additional hardware, (Note for people who have updated before) if you have already have updated it before it will probably saying its on open sourced and in additional hardware it will say no drivers are in use as it only detects and uses the driver versions that are available on addition hardware like

Step 1(only for people who have updated there driver before through the old way in the additional drivers ect, if not go to step 3):
For new people updating for the first time just select X. Org X Server Nouveau driver and press apply changes
If you have updated before a different way and want to update this way just select another driver than go back and select X. Org X Server Nouveau driver and press apply changes which will make it go back to the original xorg display manager so you can uninstall the Nvidia driver to update to a newer one using this tutorial, once you have done that restart
Step 2:
Now you get to install the newest Nvidia driver for your card, with these commands it will be able to update automatically in your software updater when a newer driver comes out for your card.
First step is to remove the old driver and nvidia x server since you want to update and not using it right now until you update
Do this command
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*Step 3:
Once you are back on your Linux desktop you will need to find out what the newest driver your Nvidia card supports, click here to go to the official nvidia website find out and once you know what version it uses you can proceed to the next step
Step 4:
Once that is done you can install the new repository and Nvidia driver, you will need to change the version number for the one your card supports (note you don't need to add the extra number on it for example do not do this "sudo apt-get install nvidia-352.21 nvidia-settings" only write in the first number and leave out the second e.g .12 on 325.21 )
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nvidia-drivernumberhere nvidia-settingsOnce that is done restart
Once you have done that you are all set up for your great gaming experience with your all new driver update and receive all the new updates for your card!

If you want to help out comment below with your Linux OS and how it went if you already see the OS you use posted in the comments then please do not do a duplicate post.
Currently tested OS: Xubuntu 14.04 with GTX 960 EVGA 4GB
